Description
You are buying the exact coral in the photo — the WYSIWYG Fender Bender Cyphastrea, photographed under blue spectrum reef lighting. Half deep magenta-red, half teal-green, split straight down the middle with a crisp line — and every polyp a tiny frosted-white starburst against the two-tone base. The name fits: it looks like two colors collided and fused. conditioned in our Key West systems, Florida.
About Cyphastrea (Cyphastrea sp.)
Cyphastrea is a small-polyp encrusting stony coral that grows like a living paint layer across rock, sheeting outward and lifting into branchlets over time. Two-tone “collision” morphs like this Fender Bender are especially sought after because the contrast holds as the colony spreads. It’s tough, adaptable, and one of the easiest ways to add high-contrast color to lower and shaded rockwork. Conditioned in our Key West systems — quarantined, dipped and inspected before it ships.
Care Guide
Easy, fast-encrusting SPS — great for beginners who want SPS color without SPS fuss.
- Lighting: Low-Medium — PAR 75–150. Tolerates shade better than most SPS, which keeps both colors vivid.
- Flow: Medium — moderate, varied flow keeps it clean and encourages tight growth.
- Placement: Lower-to-mid rockwork; it will encrust whatever it touches.
- Feeding: Low — photosynthetic; benefits from occasional fine foods.
- Aggression: Peaceful, but encrusts into neighbors — give it room to sheet.
- Water Parameters: Temp 76–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026, Alk 8–9 dKH, Ca 420–440, Mg 1300–1400. Stability matters more than exact numbers.
