Hydnophora

Hydnophora for Sale

Hydnophora is covered in small cones and packs a very powerful sting. This page has Eye of Horus and green Hydnophora, photographed in our Key West systems.

What Hydnophora is

The cones on the surface, called hydnophores, form where the walls of neighboring polyps fuse. It is widely aquacultured.

Hydnophora care, in numbers

• Light: high. Over 150 PAR brings out the best color.
• Flow: strong, passing just over the coral rather than hitting it straight on.
• Feeding: it takes small bits of shrimp.

Spacing

Hydnophora attacks neighbors with short sweeper tentacles and with digestive filaments it pushes out at night. Keepers report damage within an inch to an inch and a half. Leave at least 3 inches on every side.
