Local Corals

Florida Keys Corals for Sale

These come from the reefs and hard bottom around the Florida Keys, and they are conditioned in our Key West systems before they ship. This page has Florida rock flower anemones and a WYSIWYG Florida ricordea, among others. WYSIWYG listings are the exact animal in the photo.

How Florida marine life is collected

Florida regulates commercial collection of marine life closely. Collectors need a Saltwater Products License with Restricted Species and Marine Life endorsements, and the state sets daily limits by species. Florida ricordea, for example, is limited to 100 polyps per license per day and must be cut from the rock with a narrow flexible blade. Sea fans cannot be collected at all.

What we carry from the Keys

• Florida ricordea (Ricordea florida): bubbly mushroom corals, hardier about water quality than Pacific yuma. See our mushroom page for care.
• Rock flower anemones (Phymanthus crucifer): colorful, usually stay put, and do not host clownfish. See our rock flower page for care.
• Gorgonians, when we have them: Florida sea rods and sea fingers are photosynthetic, so they need strong light and constant, strong flow.

Why buy local

An animal collected nearby spends less time in transit before it reaches us, and these are animals from the same waters you can visit on a trip to the Keys.

How it ships from Key West

Florida Keys corals ship UPS Next Day Air on Tuesdays and Wednesdays only, so no box sits in a hub over a weekend. We ship to the lower 48. We do not ship to Alaska or Hawaii.

• Shipping charge: $30 for qualifying Florida livestock orders under 6 lb, and $50 elsewhere in the lower 48. The shipping charge is per order.
• Free livestock transportation: on qualifying livestock subtotals of $349 or more. WYSIWYG pieces count toward the $349. Dry goods do not.
• Box & Handling Fee: $10 per livestock box, and it still applies on orders with free livestock transportation. A box carries up to 6 lb of packed livestock. Heavier orders go out in additional boxes, each with its own $10 fee.
• Live arrival: if something arrives dead, photograph the animal inside the unopened bag within 4 hours of UPS delivery confirmation and send it with your order number.
