Cynarina

Cynarina for Sale

A Cynarina is a single polyp that inflates into a glossy dome, often in two or more colors. Inflated, it can reach twice the size of its skeleton. Every Cynarina on this page is WYSIWYG and photographed in our Key West systems.

What Cynarina is

Cynarina lacrymalis is a solitary LPS, round or oval, usually from protected reefs and sandy bottoms. It is easy to confuse with Acanthophyllia, which is larger and has a different skeleton under the tissue.

Cynarina care, in numbers

• Light: about 50 to 120 PAR.
• Flow: low.
• Placement: on soft sand, clear of rock, so the inflated tissue never rubs.
• Feeding: meaty food at night, once or twice a week.
• Neighbors: sources disagree. Some see feeding tentacles at night, so give it space.

Where they come from

Cynarina in the trade are wild-collected, mostly in Indonesia and Australia. Each one is its own animal, which is why they are sold WYSIWYG.
