Frogspawn Coral for Sale

Frogspawn tentacles split into short branches tipped with round knobs, so a colony looks like a cluster of eggs swaying in the current. This page has Blue Tipped Green, Peach and Gold Frammer pieces, plus a Yellow Jacket Octospawn. Everything is photographed in our Key West systems, and WYSIWYG listings are the exact coral in the photo.

Frogspawn, hammer, torch, and the names

Frogspawn and hammer were moved out of Euphyllia into their own genus, Fimbriaphyllia, in 2017. Frogspawn is now Fimbriaphyllia divisa, and branching frogspawn is Fimbriaphyllia paradivisa. Torch stayed Euphyllia. The trade still says “Euphyllia” for all three, and the care is close to the same.

• Frogspawn: branched tentacle tips with round knobs.
• Hammer: the same skeleton, with anchor-shaped tips.
• Frammer: a trade name for pieces that look between hammer and frogspawn. It is not a scientific name.
• Octospawn: another trade name, for frogspawn with fatter tentacles and more colored knobs along their length.

Frogspawn care, in numbers

• Light: about 75 to 150 PAR is a good start. They adapt to a wide range if acclimated.
• Flow: low to moderate and turbulent, enough to move the tentacles without whipping them.
• Feeding: not required. They take small meaty foods once or twice a week.
• Placement: low to middle rock, with room. Colonies can pass a foot across.

Spacing

Frogspawn carry sweeper tentacles. Hammer and frogspawn can usually touch each other without damage. Torches are different, so keep torches apart from both. Euphyllia sweepers can reach up to a foot at night.

Brown jelly

Injured tissue can turn into a light-brown slime that spreads fast. Researchers isolated the ciliate behind one outbreak from a torch coral in 2022, and in their tests it also killed Acropora, Goniopora and soft corals within 72 hours. If you see brown jelly, get that head out of the tank right away.

How it ships from Key West

Frogspawn ship UPS Next Day Air on Tuesdays and Wednesdays only, so no box sits in a hub over a weekend. We ship to the lower 48. We do not ship to Alaska or Hawaii.

• Shipping charge: $30 for qualifying Florida livestock orders under 6 lb, and $50 elsewhere in the lower 48. The shipping charge is per order.
• Free livestock transportation: on qualifying livestock subtotals of $299 or more. WYSIWYG pieces count toward the $299. Dry goods do not.
• Box & Handling Fee: $10 per livestock box, and it still applies on orders with free livestock transportation. A box carries up to 6 lb of packed livestock. Heavier orders go out in additional boxes, each with its own $10 fee.
• Live arrival: if something arrives dead, photograph the animal inside the unopened bag within 4 hours of UPS delivery confirmation and send it with your order number.
