Brain Corals for Sale — Conditioned in Key WestBrain corals are the fleshy, forgiving end of the LPS world, and they are the reason a lot of reefers stop chasing sticks. The name covers several genera that behave quite differently. Trachyphyllia (open brains) want to sit on the sand where they can fully inflate — never wedge one into the rock. Lobophyllia and Symphyllia are the heavyweights: thick meaty ridges, slow growth, and remarkably tolerant once settled. Favia and Favites encrust across rock and hold color under blue light better than almost anything else at their price. All of them want moderate light and gentle, indirect flow. Blast a brain coral with a powerhead and it will sit deflated and slowly recede. Most will take a small meaty feed once or twice a week, and it shows — feeding visibly speeds up both growth and color. Watch your spacing as well: several of these carry sweeper tentacles that reach considerably further at night than they do during the day.
