You are buying a locally collected Corky Sea Finger Gorgonian (Briareum asbestinum) frag, a Florida Keys native we hand-collect under our Saltwater Products License with Marine Life endorsements and mounted to live rock. This is a 3-4″ frag cut from a hand-collected colony of soft, finger-like branches covered in feathery, waving polyps.
About the Corky Sea Finger (Briareum asbestinum)
One of the hardiest, most beginner-friendly gorgonians in the hobby — a photosynthetic soft coral whose branches pulse with tan-lavender polyp extension under reef lighting. A Caribbean and Florida Keys native, sustainably hand-collected right here in the Keys rather than imported.
Care Guide
- Lighting: Low to medium — PAR 50–150.
- Flow: Medium to high — keeps polyps extended and clean; too little flow and it can shed a waxy film (normal, just increase flow).
- Placement: Mid rockwork, mounted upright.
- Feeding: Low — largely photosynthetic; occasional fine foods.
- Aggression: Peaceful.
- Water Parameters: Temp 76–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026, Alk 8–9 dKH, Ca 420–440, Mg 1300–1400. Stability matters most.
