Mushrooms, leathers, clove polyps and zoanthids tolerate a wider swing in nutrients and alkalinity than any stony coral, they do not need a calcium reactor, and they show you clearly when they are unhappy by staying closed.The thing people get wrong is space. Softies are not gentle neighbors. Green star polyps and clove polyps will cross a rock bridge and encrust anything they reach; leathers shed a waxy film that can irritate nearby stony corals in a small tank with weak flow; mushrooms detach and travel when they dislike their spot. Give anything on this page its own rock unless you have decided you want it spreading.Most softies want low to moderate light, roughly 50 to 150 PAR, and gentle flow. Too much flow keeps a leather closed and a mushroom stretched thin.
