About Australomussa

Australomussa rowleyensis — recently reclassified as Lobophyllia rowleyensis, though still widely sold under its original name — is one of the hobby’s most underrated LPS corals. Its dramatically ribbed skeletal structure, large fleshy polyps, and extraordinary color range make it a standout piece in any reef display. This particular specimen shows exceptional contrast between the deep red base tissue and vivid neon green polyp centers — a color combination that is difficult to find at this size.

Care Guide

Australomussa is a forgiving coral well-suited to intermediate and advanced reefers alike. Its primary requirements are stable water chemistry, low to moderate flow, and consistent feeding.

• Lighting: Low to Medium — PAR 50–150. Avoid intense direct light which can bleach the tissue.
• Flow: Low to Moderate — enough to keep detritus off the coral without pressing tissue against the skeleton.
• Placement: Bottom to mid-tank on sand or stable rockwork.
• Feeding: Feed meaty foods (mysis shrimp, Reef-Roids, LPS pellets) every 2–3 days. Turn off flow during feeding for best results.
• Aggression: Moderate — maintain 4-6″ of space from neighboring corals.
• Water Parameters: Temp 76–80°F | Salinity 1.025–1.026 | dKH 8–10 | Ca 400–450 | Mg 1250–1350
