Description
You are buying the exact coral in the photo — a WYSIWYG Rainbow Bernardpora colony (short-polyp Goniopora), approximately 4″, aquacultured at The Underwater Gardener in Key West, Florida (FL Certificate #AQ0254072). A dense, flowing carpet of tiny daisy-like polyps in electric green and chartreuse tipped with pale blue, over a rich purple encrusting base, photographed under blue spectrum reef lighting. Constant, hypnotic polyp motion — one of the best movement corals you can own.
About Bernardpora / Short-Polyp Goniopora (Bernardpora stutchburyi)
Bernardpora is the short-polyp cousin of Goniopora — an encrusting flowerpot coral covered in thousands of tiny, closely-packed polyps that sway constantly in the current. It has earned a strong reputation as one of the hardier, more forgiving members of the flowerpot family, and rainbow color forms like this are highly sought after. A 4″ established colony is a mature, display-ready piece.
Care Guide
More forgiving than large-polyp Goniopora, and rewarding in a stable, mature tank.
- Lighting: Medium — PAR 100–200. Even, moderate light keeps the polyps full and the color bright.
- Flow: Low to moderate — gentle, varied flow keeps the polyps extended and swaying.
- Placement: Sandbed or lower-to-mid rockwork with light detritus kept off it.
- Feeding: High — benefits from fine foods (phyto, reef roids, small particulate) target-fed to the polyps.
- Aggression: Peaceful — no sweepers, but give it a little room as it encrusts and spreads.
- Water Parameters: Temp 76–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026, Alk 8–9 dKH, Ca 420–440, Mg 1300–1400. Stability matters more than exact numbers.
