You are buying the exact coral pictured — a WYSIWYG Conditioned in our Key West systems Wilsoni Brain Coral (Australophyllia wilsoni) frag, approximately 3″ across, photographed under blue spectrum reef lighting. Sinuous crimson-and-red banded ridges wind over a deep sapphire base, ringed by ice-blue polyp tips and flashes of hot orange glowing from the valleys. This is a genuinely rare piece — only one available.
About the Wilsoni Brain Coral (Australophyllia wilsoni)
Wilsoni — formerly classified as Acanthastrea wilsoni and now recognized as Australophyllia wilsoni — is one of the rarest and most coveted brain corals in the hobby. Endemic to the temperate reefs of Western Australia, it is collected in very limited numbers, and true Conditioned in our Key West systems specimens like this one are dramatically harder to find than wild colonies. Wilsonis are famous for kaleidoscopic banding patterns that look hand-painted, and clean Conditioned in our Key West systems frags hold their value exceptionally well in the collector market.
This frag was Conditioned in our Key West systems from a healthy mother colony, has fully healed and encrusted, and has been held and conditioned in our system. It is actively feeding and displaying complete color expression.
Care Guide
Wilsoni is a hardy, slow-growing LPS once established. Its main needs are stable water chemistry, gentle light and flow, and regular feeding.
- Care Level: Moderate — prioritize stability over perfection
- Lighting: Low to Moderate — PAR 50–150, indirect or diffused light
- Flow: Low to Moderate — gentle, indirect flow
- Placement: Sandbed or lower rockwork, sheltered from direct flow
- Feeding: Meaty foods (mysis shrimp, Reef-Roids, LPS pellets) 2–3 times per week; target feed with flow off for best results
- Aggression: Low to Moderate — maintain 3–4″ of space from neighboring corals
- Water Parameters: Temp 76–80°F | Salinity 1.025–1.026 | dKH 8–10 | Ca 400–450 | Mg 1250–1350 | Nitrate 5–10ppm
