Description
You are buying the exact coral in the photo — a 4″ Ricordea yuma carrying one of the cleanest solid orange fields we have had in the shop. The entire disc is packed edge to edge with fat tangerine vesicles, deepening to blood orange where they overlap and lifting to sherbet yellow at the tips. A magenta oral disc sits at the centre and the same magenta bleeds up between the vesicles, which is what stops an orange animal like this from reading flat. Photographed under blue spectrum reef lighting. Conditioned in our Key West systems.
About Yuma Mushroom (Ricordea yuma)
Solid orange is one of the harder Ricordea yuma morphs to source cleanly. Most orange animals in the trade are muddied by brown zooxanthellae or break up into patchy blotches as they grow; holding a saturated, even field across a 4″ disc is uncommon. Yuma carries its beaded vesicles over the whole oral disc rather than in a ring, giving the dense texture that separates it from Florida Ricordea and from Discosoma mushrooms. They grow slowly and split rather than spread, so a large specimen represents real time in a system — this is not a coral you can rush to size.
Care Guide
Straightforward to keep, and the one thing that will ruin it is enthusiasm — too much light or flow and the disc shrinks and pales.
- Lighting: Low to moderate — PAR 50–150. Orange morphs in particular wash out under high intensity; keep it dim and blue-heavy.
- Flow: Low — soft, indirect movement only.
- Placement: Sandbed or shaded lower rockwork.
- Feeding: Low — largely photosynthetic; an occasional fine meaty feeding encourages splitting.
- Aggression: Peaceful. Give a 4″ animal a few inches of clear space so it can open fully without touching neighbours.
- Water Parameters: Temp 76–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026, Alk 8–9 dKH, Ca 420–440, Mg 1300–1400. Stability matters more than exact numbers.
