Description
You are buying the exact coral in the photo — a fully aquacultured Blue Oregon Tort Acropora colony photographed under blue spectrum reef lighting. This colony shows the classic Oregon Tort look at colony scale: deep steel-blue branches and corallites over glowing neon-green base tissue, with fresh blue growth tips throughout. This colony measures approximately 3″x4″ — grown out tile by tile in our Key West systems. An established, encrusted colony, not a fresh cut.
About the Oregon Tort (Acropora tortuosa)
The Oregon Tort is one of the most famous names in the SPS hobby — a deep-water Acropora tortuosa line prized for its rich blue coloration that has been passed between dedicated reefers for decades. True aquacultured colonies of this size are rarely offered. As a fully tank-grown coral, it is already adapted to aquarium life, making it markedly hardier than wild or maricultured Acropora.
Care Guide
Acropora are for reefers with stable, mature systems. The Oregon Tort rewards consistency with intense blue coloration and steady growth.
- Lighting: High — PAR 250–400. Strong, stable lighting brings out the deepest blues. Acclimate gradually to intense light.
- Flow: High — strong, indirect, randomized flow keeps tissue clean and drives polyp extension.
- Placement: Upper rockwork, with room to grow in all directions.
- Feeding: Low — feeds primarily by photosynthesis; benefits from amino acids and fine plankton feeds.
- Aggression: Peaceful — give it space; do not let neighboring corals touch it.
- Water Parameters: Temp 76–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026, Alk 8–9 dKH, Ca 420–440, Mg 1300–1400. Stability matters more than exact numbers.
