Description
You are buying the exact bounce mushroom in the photo, a single WYSIWYG specimen photographed under blue spectrum reef lighting. The disc is packed with short tentacles in gold and green, the rim is edged with magenta-pink tips, and pale teal bounce vesicles sit across the face. Conditioned in our Key West systems.
About Bounce Mushrooms (Rhodactis sp.)
A bounce mushroom is a Rhodactis that grows swollen, bubble-like vesicles among its tentacles. Those vesicles are the reason people chase them, and they are also the part that reacts first when something is off. After a move, or under too much light or flow, the bounces can shrink or deflate, then fill back out once the animal settles. Bounce mushrooms grow and split slowly, which is why a colored-up piece with visible vesicles holds its value.
Care Guide
Easy to keep alive, harder to keep bouncing. Give it low light, gentle flow and stable water, then leave it where you put it.
- Lighting: Low to medium, PAR 50–150. Start it low and shaded. Too much light is the usual reason bounces shrink.
- Flow: Low. Enough to keep detritus off the disc, not enough to push the tissue around.
- Placement: Sandbed or a shaded spot on the lower rock. Mushrooms can detach and move toward conditions they prefer, so give it room.
- Feeding: Low. It lives on light and dissolved nutrients, and does better with some nutrients in the water than in a stripped, ultra-low-nutrient system.
- Aggression: Peaceful. Keep an inch or two between it and its neighbors.
- Water Parameters: Temp 76–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026, Alk 8–9 dKH, Ca 420–440, Mg 1300–1400. Stability matters more than exact numbers.
