Description
1 cup portion of cultured Agardhiella macroalgae, quarantined and grown right here in Key West. Reef safe — will not sting or overgrow corals.
About Agardhiella
Agardhiella is a genus of red macroalgae (Rhodophyta) with fine, cylindrical, densely branching fronds that take on a vivid magenta-to-red color under reef lighting. It’s a popular grazing and refugium algae among reefers because it’s palatable to fish, easy to maintain, and non-invasive in display tanks.
Care Guide
- Lighting: Moderate to high reef lighting brings out the best color.
- Flow: Low to moderate — gentle flow keeps the fine branches intact.
- Placement: Refugium, sump, or display as a grazing patch; can be free-floating or anchored to rubble.
- Feeding/Nutrients: No supplemental feeding required — it draws nutrients from tank water, helping with nitrate/phosphate export.
- Aggression/Reef Safe: 100% reef safe. Herbivorous fish (tangs, rabbitfish, angelfish) will graze on it readily.
- Water Parameters: Standard reef parameters — Temp 76-78°F, pH 8.1-8.4, Salinity 1.024-1.026.
