Packing and shipping are charged per box, not per coral. The $15 packing fee covers the insulated box, heat or ice packs and the time it takes to pack live coral safely; overnight UPS is the carrier cost of getting it out of Key West alive. A box typically holds around five small frags, so adding compatible corals to the same shipment usually will not add another packing or shipping charge. Larger colonies, species that cannot share water, or extreme weather can require a second box. Orders over $399 ship free.

Florida: $30 overnight livestock shipping. Qualifying Florida livestock orders under 6 lb ship overnight for a flat $30, plus the $15 packing fee. Heavier or mixed shipments use our standard overnight rate, and orders over $399 ship free either way.

Livestock ships to the continental US. Alaska needs a shipping quote before you order, and we cannot ship coral to Hawaii — get in touch first.

Description

You are buying the exact coral in the photo — a 4″ Wellsophyllia brain coral photographed under blue spectrum reef lighting. The skeleton folds into deep, sweeping valleys, and the tissue runs electric teal and mint green across the ridges with magenta and deep blue settling into the troughs. The wall pattern is unusually tight and symmetrical for a Wellso of this size, which is what gives it that folded-brain look from directly above. Conditioned in our Key West systems.

About Wellsophyllia (Trachyphyllia radiata)

Wellsophyllia is the folded, closed-wall form of the Trachyphyllia group — modern taxonomy folds it into Trachyphyllia radiata, though the hobby still separates “Wellso” from “Trachy” by shape. A Wellso is a single free-living polyp with a heavily convoluted wall, where a Trachy tends to be more open and butterfly-shaped. They are collected from soft-sediment lagoon floors rather than reef structure, which is why they sit flat on sand and never attach to rock. Because each one is a solitary polyp that cannot be fragged, every specimen is a one-off — the colour and fold pattern you see is the only one like it.

Care Guide

Forgiving for a collector-grade LPS — it asks for calm water, gentle light and regular feeding, and it repays that with dramatic tissue inflation and colour.

  • Lighting: Low to Medium — PAR 50–150. Diffused light brings out fluorescence without bleaching the tissue.
  • Flow: Low to Moderate — indirect, gentle. Cut flow while target feeding.
  • Placement: Sandbed or a flat spot on lower rockwork where the polyp can fully inflate.
  • Feeding: High — meaty foods (mysis, chopped krill, Reef-Roids, LPS pellets) two to three times weekly.
  • Aggression: Semi-aggressive — allow 3–4″ of clear space from neighbours.
  • Water Parameters: Temp 76–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026, Alk 8–9 dKH, Ca 420–440, Mg 1300–1400. Stability matters more than exact numbers.
