Packing and shipping are charged per box, not per coral. The $15 packing fee covers the insulated box, heat or ice packs and the time it takes to pack live coral safely; overnight UPS is the carrier cost of getting it out of Key West alive. A box typically holds around five small frags, so adding compatible corals to the same shipment usually will not add another packing or shipping charge. Larger colonies, species that cannot share water, or extreme weather can require a second box. Orders over $399 ship free.

Florida: $30 overnight livestock shipping. Qualifying Florida livestock orders under 6 lb ship overnight for a flat $30, plus the $15 packing fee. Heavier or mixed shipments use our standard overnight rate, and orders over $399 ship free either way.

Livestock ships to the continental US. Alaska needs a shipping quote before you order, and we cannot ship coral to Hawaii — get in touch first.

Description

You are buying the exact coral in the photo — an ultra-grade Goniopora carrying flower-head polyps on pale blue-lavender stalks, each head opening into a ring of long tapered tentacles that burn bright neon yellow under actinics with paler chartreuse tips and a luminous centre. The contrast between the cool blue-grey stalk and the yellow heads is what puts this one in ultra territory rather than the muted brown-green typical of the species. Photographed under blue spectrum reef lighting. conditioned in our Key West systems, Florida under FL Aquaculture Certificate #AQ0254072.

About Goniopora (Goniopora sp.)

Goniopora — flowerpot coral — spent years with a reputation as a coral that dies six months after purchase no matter what you do. That reputation was earned by wild-collected colonies pulled from nutrient-rich lagoon habitats that no home aquarium was replicating. Conditioned in our Key West systems and captive-grown stock changed the picture completely: pieces raised in captivity from the start feed readily, tolerate normal reef nutrient levels, and grow. The long extended polyps give a swaying, anemone-like motion that few other LPS deliver, and a healthy colony will slowly add heads and fill in. Colour like this holds under blue-heavy lighting rather than washing out.

Care Guide

Not a difficult coral any more, but it is a hungry one — the difference between a Goniopora that survives and one that visibly grows is almost entirely feeding.

  • Lighting: Medium — PAR 100–200. Bright enough to keep colour, gentle enough that the polyps stay fully extended through the day.
  • Flow: Medium and indirect. The polyps should sway; they should not be pinned back.
  • Placement: Sandbed or lower rock, with room around it so extended polyps do not touch neighbours.
  • Feeding: High — this is the one that matters. Fine plankton, oyster feast, rotifers or a quality powdered coral food two or three times a week. Broadcast feed rather than blasting the heads directly.
  • Aggression: Peaceful, but it takes up more space than its skeleton suggests once the polyps are out.
  • Water Parameters: Temp 76–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026, Alk 8–9 dKH, Ca 420–440, Mg 1300–1400. Stability matters more than exact numbers.

Water Flow: medium
Lighting: medium
Feeding: high

Placement: Sandbed or lower rockwork with clearance around it. Once it is settled and opening fully, leave it in place — Goniopora dislikes being moved.

Not sure how to keep it? See the large polyp stony corals in our Coral Field Guide — ID notes, PAR, flow, placement and aggression, next to the corals people mistake them for.
