Almost WYSIWYG Long Tentacle (Weeping Willow) Leather Coral Mini Colony (3.5″)

Description

This is an almost WYSIWYG listing. You receive a 3.5″ Long Tentacle (Weeping Willow) Leather mini colony from the same group as the one in the photo, so the color and shape will be very close but not identical. Under blue spectrum reef lighting the tentacles are long and green, with bright neon green tips, and they sway over a pale blue base dotted with fine dark pores. When the polyps are fully out, the long tentacles hang and drift like willow branches, which is where the name comes from. Conditioned in our Key West systems and photographed in our showroom.

About Long Tentacle Leather Coral

Leather corals are soft corals with a firm, rubbery base and no hard skeleton. The long tentacle form is one of the easiest ways to add motion to a reef, since the polyps stay out most of the day and move with the flow. Leathers are hardy and forgiving, which makes this a good piece for a newer tank as well as an established one.

Care Guide

Easy care. A stable tank and moderate light are all it needs to grow.

• Lighting: Medium, PAR 100–250. Acclimate to new lighting over a week or two.
• Flow: Medium, enough to keep the tentacles moving without folding them flat.
• Placement: Mid to lower rockwork, with room around it to grow and sway.
• Feeding: Low. It gets most of what it needs from light. Fine particulate foods once a week are a bonus, not a requirement.
• Aggression: Leathers release compounds into the water that can bother nearby stony corals. Give it space and run activated carbon.
• Normal behavior: It will close up for a day or two now and then and shed a thin waxy film. That is normal, and it reopens once the film is gone.
• Water Parameters: Temp 76–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026, Alk 8–9 dKH, Ca 420–440, Mg 1300–1400. Stability matters more than exact numbers.
