Description

The Red Sea REEFER S-550 G3 is the standard build of Red Sea’s third-generation REEFER platform. It arrives as a complete, reef-ready foundation, which means the tank, cabinet, sump, plumbing and top-off are done for you and the filtration, lighting and flow are yours to choose. Its display holds 118.4 gallons, the sump holds 26.7, and the whole system carries 145.1 gallons of water on a 47.3 by 26.8 inch footprint.

REEFER S-550 G3 specifications

Volumes are the manufacturer’s figures for the system as built. Actual water volume in your room will be lower once rock and sand go in. Total height is measured to the top of the tank with it standing on its cabinet, so measure your ceiling and any shelf above the tank before you order.

What comes with the REEFER G3

• Ultra-clear, beveled-edge rimless glass with a low-profile overflow
• Marine-spec laminated cabinet in black or white
• Glass sump, sized to accept Red Sea’s ReefMat fleece rollers and REEFER DC protein skimmers (both sold separately)
• Ready-to-use pre-glued plumbing with the ReefGate flow valve for quiet, tunable drains
• ReefATO+ auto top-off, temperature monitor and leak detector, all reporting to the ReefBeat app
• 5-year manufacturer warranty (3 years standard, 2 more on registration)

The ReefATO+ sensor carries a backup float above the primary sensor, so an overfill shuts the pump down on its own, and the leak detector is saltwater-rated rather than a freshwater part pressed into service.

Will it fit, and is it the right size for you

The S series is the deep-water version of the platform. The S-550 sits on a four-foot footprint like the 425 but runs 26.8 inches front to back and 25.6 inches of tank height, which takes it from 90.6 gallons of display to 118.4 on almost the same wall. If you want depth for aquascaping and are not able to give up more length, this is the trade to make.

What goes with the REEFER S-550 G3

A lid is the one accessory we tell people to buy at the same time as the tank, not later. Every wrasse, every anthias and most of the tangs worth owning will find the one gap you left open. The one cut for this exact model is the Red Sea mesh lid for the REEFER S-550.

• Skimming and mechanical filtration: the sump is cut for the REEFER DC 300, REEFER DC 600, REEFER DC 900 and the ReefMat 250, ReefMat 500, ReefMat 1200. Which size you want depends on how heavily you plan to stock and feed the tank, not only on the water volume, so call us and we will size it against your actual plan rather than a chart.
• Lighting: ReefLED G2 60, ReefLED G2 115, ReefLED G2 170. If you would rather have the lighting fitted and mounted at the factory, look at the REEFER Deluxe build of this same tank instead.
• In-tank flow: ReefWave 25 and ReefWave 45.
• Everything else Red Sea: salt, Reef Foundation, Trace Colors, test kits, dosing and ATO are all in our Red Sea department.
