About Acans

Acans are LPS corals built from fleshy, rounded polyps on a hard skeleton, each polyp with its own mouth. After the lights go out most of them push out short feeding tentacles, and that is the best time to feed. The color pattern is different on every piece, which is why we photograph and sell them one at a time.

Care Guide

Easy to moderate care. Acans do well in lower light and steady water, and they color up and grow faster when you feed them.

• Lighting: Low to medium, PAR 50–150. More light than that can wash out the color.
• Flow: Low to moderate. Enough to keep the tissue clean without pushing it flat.
• Placement: Sandbed or lower rockwork, on a flat spot where the polyps can fully expand.
• Feeding: Target feed small meaty foods like mysis or coral pellets once or twice a week, after the lights go out when the feeding tentacles are showing.
• Aggression: Mild. Short sweepers can sting a neighbor, so leave an inch or two of space.
• Water Parameters: Temp 76–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026, Alk 8–9 dKH, Ca 420–440, Mg 1300–1400. Stability matters more than exact numbers.
