Description
You are buying the exact coral in the photo. This is an approximately 4″ Ultra Red Goniopora colony with long, full tentacles that stay extended most of the day. Under blue spectrum reef lighting the polyps are a deep saturated red from the stalk to the tip, with pale blue-violet centers and matching tips on each tentacle. The polyps are dense across the whole skeleton with no bare patches. Conditioned in our Key West systems and photographed in our showroom.
About Goniopora (Goniopora sp.)
Goniopora is the classic flowerpot coral, an LPS with long-stalked polyps that sway in the current and give a reef tank constant motion. Solid red colonies with this much tentacle length are uncommon. Most Goniopora on the market lean green or tan. Goniopora once had a reputation as a hard-to-keep coral, but that came from wild colonies collected in poor condition. A colony that has been eating and holding color in a conditioned system, like this one, is a different animal.
Care Guide
Moderate care. Goniopora rewards steady feeding and stable water with full polyp extension and steady growth.
- Lighting: Medium — PAR 100–200. Acclimate it to new lighting over a week or two.
- Flow: Medium — enough random flow to keep the tentacles moving, never a direct jet.
- Placement: Sandbed or lower rockwork, with room for the tentacles to extend fully.
- Feeding: High — fine plankton, powdered coral foods, and amino acids several times a week.
- Aggression: Peaceful. Keep it clear of aggressive neighbors with long sweepers.
- Water Parameters: Temp 76–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026, Alk 8–9 dKH, Ca 420–440, Mg 1300–1400. Stability matters more than exact numbers.
