Bubble Coral for Sale

By day, a bubble coral is a mound of grape-like bubbles. At night the bubbles shrink and long sweeper tentacles come out to hunt. This page has WYSIWYG ultra bubble colonies and a pearl bubble, all photographed in our Key West systems.

Bubble coral and pearl bubble

The classic bubble coral is Plerogyra sinuosa. Pearl bubble coral is Physogyra, a close relative in the same family. In one study, bubble size went up within an hour when the coral was shaded, which researchers read as the coral adjusting how much light reaches its algae.

Bubble coral care, in numbers

• Light: most keepers run them around 50 to 150 PAR. Acclimate slowly.
• Flow: gentle and turbulent. Strong straight flow tears the tissue on the sharp skeleton underneath.
• Feeding: small meaty food at night, about once a week. Too much changes its shape.
• Placement: low and stable. An inflated bubble coral is top-heavy and can tip over.

Spacing

At night, sweepers reach 3 to 4 inches past the edge of the colony. Give it that much room on every side.

Handle by the skeleton

The bubbles puncture easily. Pick it up by the skeleton, never by the bubbles, and never lift an inflated bubble coral out of the water. Let it deflate first.

How it ships from Key West

Bubble corals ship UPS Next Day Air on Tuesdays and Wednesdays only, so no box sits in a hub over a weekend. We ship to the lower 48. We do not ship to Alaska or Hawaii.

• Shipping charge: $30 for qualifying Florida livestock orders under 6 lb, and $50 elsewhere in the lower 48. The shipping charge is per order.
• Free livestock transportation: on qualifying livestock subtotals of $349 or more. WYSIWYG pieces count toward the $349. Dry goods do not.
• Box & Handling Fee: $10 per livestock box, and it still applies on orders with free livestock transportation. A box carries up to 6 lb of packed livestock. Heavier orders go out in additional boxes, each with its own $10 fee.
• Live arrival: if something arrives dead, photograph the animal inside the unopened bag within 4 hours of UPS delivery confirmation and send it with your order number.
